December Happenings

December is typically busy and this year maybe even more so. I must admit I did catch a small case of Grinchitis but got over it. No need for a prescription. What helped?

December Birthdays

Let me first begin by returning to a November birthday...Derek Greg Allen is here and he is cute. We can't to meet him. December has us celebrating my friends Brian, Raylynn, and Nikki plus Sundee and little Jayson. Happy Day to you!

Happy News

The biggest news this week is that Eric got a new job! I could just write that in CAPS and be done, but I will explain. Eric will now be working at the Church Office Building as a Real Esate Project Manager. It is like a Christmas miracle for our family and we are all happy for him. I know he is excited about wearing a suit everyday and the commute;) Oh yeah and his window gives him a view of the U. Now Trevor is excited to go and visit him at work. Anyway, this makes our season all the more merry!

December Music

December treats

I got a little too excited about baking and tried 3 things at once. Good thing the boys and Eric are great at baking also. They helped me frost the cookies and sprinkle the colors and candy canes. They helped taste the "Hugs." They even told me the reindeer looked great. I must say in the end with the boys cards made and the treats wrapped up it was totally worth it. Unfortunately, I missed taking the photo of the 4 guys frosting the cookies together. Have fun making treats this season.

December happenings

This week had us celebrating with Trevor at the conclusion of his dinosaur unit. They take 4 days and make paper mache dinosaurs and parents are invited to help and then return to the Dinosaur Museum at the end of the week. Plus, the boys were able to enter the Reflections contest and Tyler got a medal for his art. They are happy at school and love their teachers.

November Music

Okay before I go into the songs...I have another suggestion for music. I believe it is called Raffi's childrens favorites. I took several songs from this songbook and then found it as a 3 CD set and it is great.

The songs I used from his songbook are "The corner grocery store", "Peanut Butter Sandwich", and "Brush your teeth". Oh, I changed the words in peanut butter sandwich to peanut butter and honey, 1 for me and 1 for my friend Sunny. Then I taught them sign language for Happy Thanksgiving and sang those word to Happy Birthday tune. I read "Over the River" by Derek Anderson. I also read "A Turkey for Thanksgiving" by Eve Bunting pictures by Diane de Groat.

The next week I read a different version Over the River by David Catrow and taught them the first verse of that song. I brought a mini stuffed animal turkey and sang "there's a turkey on my head, on my head" (or knee, toe, elbow, etc) to the tune "If you're happy and you know it". I just reviewed the other 4 songs and called it a great Friday.

Thanksgiving

It was almost perfect---except that Fritz, Todd, Kelsey and Storm were missing. What made it so great? Having Thanksgiving dinner at 1 to start off the fun. The cousins had plenty of time to play and oh, how they did play. The rest of us had plenty of time to catch up and tell stories. I even made everyone play Buzzword (which if they would admit it, was fun to do) So distracted by the fun that I think I let my children eat pie, 1 or more pieces, before they had dinner. In fact, back to the food. There are some amazing cooks in my family and it was really good. I still can't believe that Amy made 4 pies or something. Trevor also was able to get two teeth pulled and a retainer from some orthodontist we know:) Eric and dad went shopping on Thanksgiving and on Black Friday. The girls went later. Verrazanos was calling our name and so we got pizza and fingers Friday night. Yes, I remember when I messed up years back and got wings. Plus, we did get extra ranch Todd. We went and saw Tangled. We celebrated me being old and I really was spoiled even with the occasional jokes of getting my glasses out (which I don't wear) and the "we should sing louder comments." We got to go to church as a family also which doesn't happen often and that was nice. Our farewells and onto driving 8 1/2 hours back home in snow and traffic. That did not erase the wonderful weekend. Missing everyone already!!

Happy Birthday

I have had a beautiful life filled with happy moments and opportunities. I have been blessed with a loving family, incredible teachers and mentors, and with fantastic friends.

Things I still do: eat Oreos, Total cereal, Nesquick chocolate milk, dance, play the piano, lose things like keys (although not as often), take many photos, and write lots of lists. Some things may change about people you love, but many things do not.

After reading memories from my children and family, I am thrilled that I have given people reason to laugh. However, I hope I have improved my driving skills after all these years...don't reply to that either siblings.

Thanks for all the thougthful gifts, calls, and cards. Love to everyone.

Happy Birthday Baby T

Well, my baby is growing up! Today he is 3. He is really talking now, is still loving books & puzzles, sleeps in a big bed, eats all kinds of food, wants to be like his brothers and play Legos, likes to sing songs, helps me cook, loves to count, and to my surprise green is his favorite color. He is one funny kid and we adore him. My favorite phrases are "thank you mom" , "mom, can I tell you something?" AND of course "mom, I love you" Happy Birthday!

Something we do

What do we love to do? READ.

Do you know the saying? Richer than I you will never be, I had a mother who read to me...My children are so lucky because they have grandparents, aunts, and uncles who have been reading to them since they were born. They even read to each other. I made the photo with mini prints because I look dreadful in most but Eric thinks it is sweet when the boys and I are sitting so close engrossed in a book (or Lego magazine). He is right. It is sweet.

Eric's mom played book fairy this past weekend. She read to my boys and left the book in our bookcase. Now we have a new book that I love. I won't share the title just in cast she is playing book fairy in her travels to other families. Thank you.

November Birthdays

Well, I was waiting for a phone call from T&K so I could announce the birthday here...and I still will. (very excited) November family birthdays involve the big Trey turning 3. I will give him his own moment. I also have my cousin Dave to send a birthday wish to. I do have tons of friends in November. My Vegas friends Lisa, Alicia, and Justin. My first friend at BYU Jody Wirth a lot:) She will see the humor in it if you don't. My dear friend and roommate in Jerusalem Michelle. And my wonderful friend Whitney who I lived with after I graduated from college. Happy Birthday!

It has started snowing

Last year I couldn't bear to cut down the beautiful fall mums...however, when spring came there was some serious clean up that had to be done. Note to self: do the fall flower clean up. SO the flowers are gone now. One of my neighbors told me that tulips are the bulbs of faith. You plant them and wait hoping that you will see beauty in the spring. Well, I planted 89 bulbs this year for fun. Not all tulips this time. I will let you know. If you live nearby then you can drive by. The saying goes, "If you don't see anything, don't say anything." Yes, of course I made that up but honestly if you don't see some beauty in the spring DON'T say anything to me.

Thankful to Eric, my boys, my parents, Eric's parents, and my friends for helping, listening, and encouraging me in this gardening thing. I do love flowers, I just don't know what I am doing.

First weekend of November

This weekend was wonderful! We had a great time with Grammy and Grandpa visiting. We were able to shop, eat, make treats, talk, clean up the yard, cheer for BYU, and of course the Traitor book on disc. We also got to travel to Richfield to see sweet Ava and her family. Thanks for the memory of being with you.

October Music

Just in case you thought I had left T's class having no fun Fridays...here are some of the songs we did. I only got to go two times this month becuase of field trips and fall break.

I put different spooky stickers on each child in the class. We sang Oh do you have a spooky ghost (spooky spider, spooky pumpkin, etc) Then stand and turn around. Sung to Muffin Man tune. At the end sing oh do you have a spooky sticker then everyone stands and turns around.

We sang 1 little, 2 little, 3 little pumpkins...All for Halloween Night.

We sang Oh we're all dressed up in costumes trick or treat sung to Oh she'll be coming round the mountain. I think I mentioned this but I will again. Go and buy the Piggyback songs to sign. Children love sign language and it makes singing more fun too. They learned how to sign trick or treat and Happy Halloween. For signing Happy Halloween we sang Happy Halloween to ____, sung to the tune Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah. Just have children come to the front in groups of 4's and then switch. Fun.

Then we sang three different songs to Christmas tunes.

Sorry so late and absolutely no help at all to all those who had Halloween Parties to throw. A little crazy with visitors all month and colds this last week. Now on to the month of November:)

Happy Halloween

We enjoyed our Halloween week filled with parades, parties, and trick or treating. Thanks to everyone for their packages, spooky Halloween photos, phone calls, and visits. We did the Harry Potter theme going as Hagrid, Professor McGonagall, Mad Eye Moody, Harry Potter, and the littlest wizard. Later on Halloween the littlest wizard wanted to be a pirate with a wand. Sure, why not.

Happy Birthday/Halloween again to Julie, Andrew, and Bishop Pearson.

Leslie & Neil and family

Another weekend packed with family fun. Leslie & Neil and Sarah, Zach, Natalie, and Elsie came to our home on Thursday night. I actually am not sure what the cousins were doing. There was costumes, running, and noise. Since they were happy noises it must have been fun. We basically tried to catch up on all that is going on with them. If there was more time and we weren't so sleepy I woul know even more. Friday we were able to go to the Pearson Wedding in Salt Lake thanks to our visiting babysitters. Friday afternoon the boys got to get out of school and be with cousins. Leslie and I went shopping and weren't gone longer than the guys thought. Hahaha...that's because they already knew we would be really enjoying ourselves. THANKS. Cousins night at home and adults night out. It was a wonderful night! Sadly, we said farewell Saturday morning. Thanks for coming. It is always good to be with you!

Visiting Witches

We finally did it. Years of hoping to make it to the witches festival and we did it! Totally worth it. In fact, the only sad part about it was that I didn't take more pictures. At Gardner Village, all the trees, gardens, walkways, and shops are decorated to the hilt. AND all along the way there are themed witches. You are given a witches search sheet. You find witches dressed as firefighters, using cell phones, mixing potions, wearing fancy hats, rowing boats etc. The boys, my mom, and I liked the baseball witches, withy poo (witch sitting in the outhouse), the flying bicycle witch (tied way up high on some zipline), and the witch getting ready to do a cannonball into the water. We had a great lunch at the restaurant there and then headed home.

We were also spoiled by new Halloween books. Oh you know how I love Halloween stories!

Family Weekend

Another wonderful family weekend! Lisa & Jeff and their three little ones Everett, Jayson, and Emma came for a visit. It was great fun! Cousins are fun to watch. Saturday they went to the Dinosaur museum and then the dads went to the BYU game. AND THEY WON! After the little people went to bed, the rest of us stayed up way too late talking. Sunday came around and Ryan & Sarali and Parker, Connor, Brody, and Brita came to our house. More fun all around. The cousins played and then went to bed. I wrote that like it went smoothly hahaha. Anyway, another late night spoiled by Eric's grilled up bananas for ice cream sundaes.

The secret is out. Eric is the best cook! I am the taster. Maybe I can get an award for being best taster. It was great to be together as family. I appreciated all the great advice about sleeping (successful one night so there is hope) and reading (started the Return book by Elder Hales) and all the other great ideas relating to many other topics too numerous to mention. I don't know what the guys were talking about but Lisa & Sarali, you two are amazing!

E is for Effort

So I have been reading Bakerella and trying hard to do what she says. Hard is the word I would use to describe my experience...as well as... Exciting? Yes. Frustrating? Absolutely. The end results? Fun. However, do not think I have given up on cupcakes. I recently made carrot cupcakes and pink lemonade. Upcoming...pumpking cupcakes, rootbeer cupcakes, and caramel apple cupcakes. Recipes from meals and cupcakes coming soon.

Fun Friday

It was Apple Day at school. We sang the red song, the green song, and we would of sung the yellow song but I couldn't find it. We talked about the different colors of apples. We talked about what harvest means and sang the Harvest Song. This song is taken from the Piggyback Songs to Sign. Excellent book!! I read "The Apple Pie Tree" by Zoe Hall and illustrated by Shari Halpern. I also read "Apple Trouble" by Ragnhild Scamell and Michael Terry. Then I taught them that funny song about worms...you may remember it...Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms. We talked about how no one would want to eat an apple with a worm in it. Fridays are such good days.

October Birthdays

This month has us celebrating the birthdays of Quentin, my cousins Jon, Joel, & Andrew, plus my friend Julie. Birthday wishes to you!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

Sunday

Sadly, we said goodbye to my parents after church and they headed on their way home. We also jumped in the car after church and went to meet Ava. Oh my goodness, she is a sweetie. The boys could not get enough of her. She is just an itty bitty little lady. We were also spoiled by dinner and dessert. The boys loved playing with their cousins. I also was totally thrilled to play with Madi and Jaxon. They were precious. It was great to be with Carson and Ashley and Eric's parents again. Nice family weekend. We made it home by 11:20 and so no blog about it on Monday. (too tired) Quick trip to meet Ava and a quick trip back and absolutely worth it!

Saturday

We began our Saturday morning at Tyler's soccer game. I have to smile just thinking of the games. Tyler is his same entertaining self except that I didn't get it on video. (I guess I will get it spring soccer season ) Fun team full of boys, great coaches, and wonderful parents.

We arrived home to have the boys open the family gift of the Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle. Trevor and Calvin then spent the rest of the afternoon building it. 10 bags or more of legos and 3 booklets worth of instructions. It looks awesome!

My parents spoiled the boys by playing with them and treating them to pizza. They spoiled us as we were able to go to the BYU game. Too bad they didn't win.

Party Night

After such a fun day with family...it continued into the night. My parents, Todd, Kelsey, and Storm came for Trevor's birthday dinner. He made some really great choices. Usually he picks pizza, but I told him he could pick any of his favorites so this year he picked steak, corn on the cob, and chips and salsa. We also had potatoes and a salad just for fun:) He was absolutely spoiled by everyone being so generous. Lego book, lego toys, legos on order, clothes, pjs, candy, movie, books, and art supplies. Plus, Hagrid came to the party. (Our nieghbor dressed up) It was a classic moment. On to Trevor's treat decisions...lego minifigure cake, cake pops that looked like skulls that were decorated by boys, and popcorn for the Harry Potter movie. It was a great day from early in the morning until we finally said it is too late to finish the movie. Definitely a Happy Birthday to Trevor!

Friday

After my parents went and spent time with Tyler, we went down to Trevor's class. Trevor's teacher had my parents sit in the front of the class while she asked them questions. She let them talk about their school experiences and I wish I would have taped it. (Darn) The class then did some grandparents songs, Utah counties song, and their favorite song "Great Big Moose". Mrs. Louder is exceptional.

Eric's parents arrived and then they headed over to the school. Tyler and Trevor got to eat lunch with them and spend more time with them in each of their classrooms.

This is the first year they have done this and what a wonderful idea!!

Friday Morning Music

As you know it was Grandparents Day on Friday so my parents came with me to Tyler's class for music time.

We played "Ziggy Says" from Ziggy Marley's Family Time CD. Then my mom, Mimi, played "Mimi Says" with them.

We did "Go, go, go, go for G" from They Might Be Giants ABC CD. They listened for g words while playing the instruments. I had them try to think of Gr blend words.

We sang "Go Go Go" from the Backyardigans CD.

We sang the "green song". This is the song that helps them learn to spell the word green.

I explained that Tyler's grandpa helps people with their teeth and I read this hilarious book called Grandpa's Teeth.

Another fun Friday for me in Tyler's classroom.

Trevor

10 years ago on a Sunday afternoon this sweet boy became a part of our family. Sunday's child is full of...thoughtfulness, creativity, kindness, and wit. We see this as he plays with his brothers, writes stories, invites friends over, teases me, and the kind of questions he asks.

My favorite conversation this month

T "Mom what is it like to be parent?"

Me "It is easy and it is hard. It is easy to love you, but difficult to always know what to do because I have never been a parent before."

T "When I don't know what to do with my children I am going call you okay? If I live close then I am just going to come over. I hope Mimi & Bobba and Grammy & Grandpa get to meet my children."

Sweet. I know. I love this child of mine.

Today's theme was counting.

I then had the boys count by 10's to 100 while jumping.

I read "Froggy Counts to 10".
I also read "How many snails" by Paul Giganti.

We sang 10 in the bed. I had 10 children come up and turn around and one "falls out".
I did Sesame Streets count 1-8. I passed out instruments and then did the song "Honk around the Clock" also Sesame Street.
I read Snake Supper by Alan Durant & Ant Parker.

For the last song, we sang "3 Cool Mice." I will get back with all the information for this song when I get it back from Tyler's teacher. This song is fun. Well, another fun Friday.
Next Friday is Grandparents Day.

Remembering

Guess what I was doing 2+ years ago? Yes, you guessed it. I was having a potty training party. See the streamers, chart, doll, tent, and wrapped up underwear? It is that time again. Only it is for Trey and we are doing the farm theme party. Wish me luck!

Meals from Monday

Another week come and gone and 4 more boxes thrown away in the basement. I am so thrilled with what I have accomplished and also laughing thinking if my uber organized girlfriends came over they might wonder if I had started the project yet. You know the homes you see in magazines with all white carpet and white walls and a single orange toy on the ground...yeah, not my house. Anyway, here is what kept us from starving last week:

Friday Fun

Since today was Teddy Bear Day at school, we started out with "sittin' on a farm", then I played the song for the them to do a freeze dance with their bears. I asked them their bears favorite food and then taught them the simple song "macaroni and cheese" by Bill Harley. I read the "Teddy Bear Teddy Bear turn around" book. I asked if they tell me somthing they were scared of. I read the book "Can't You Sleep Little Bear" by Martin Waddell and Barbara Firth. I love these Little Bear books. At the end we quickly sang "the bear went over the mountain."

Sat Feeling sorry for myself that no one invited us to a BBQ the boys ate quesadillas and I ate lots of chips and salsa. Actually I didn't feel sorry for myself but as Eric was at the football game I just made them what they wanted.
Sunday Stromboli Every Sunday Eric cooks and it is always great.

Fun Friday

We sang three songs from last time - the singing class, the "I go to school with" so I could learn the rest of their names, Black socks in a round, and our new song "sittin' on a farm."


Sittin' on a farm can be found on Bethie's really silly songs about Animals...I cannot find it on itunes for you... (Kathleen Rushing may pop up, the words are the same but the tune IS NOT)
Sorry about that. It is about some kind of animal sitting on your knee and to get it off you have to invite a bigger animal to lunch. I brought stuffed animals including a huge stuffed bear, thanks to Eric's mom, which is the finale to the song.

They are such an adorable class. Thrilled I get to go spend time with them every Friday. This Friday is Teddy Bear Day so I guess bear songs it is.

I think the funnest part of this week was tasting the ciabatta bread. Eric absolutely perfected this. Wow! We watched the America's Test Kitchen show to learn how to make it and Eric even changed some things on that recipe to make it oh so good. Go to their website to watch how they do it. It does require time and several steps. If there is time I'll try to have him post how he did it. I finally tried the Bakerella cupcake bites. Now I know how to do it. (Thanks for the tip Lori) The first time always takes a little longer for me. You can go to her website too. I think they show how she made them on the Martha Stewart show and there is a link from her site. Plus her book comes out SOON and I am excited. Happy baking, cooking, grilling, and eating:)

Fun Friday

My friend Shelby came for a visit and mentioned that she did singing/story time with her son's class. She wore funny hats that went with the themes being taught. Isn't that a brilliant idea? I thought so. I didn't wear any funny hats, but today was my first Fun Friday.

Summer Memories

Well, the boys started school on Wednesday. They are loving it. Trevor said, "today is better than yesterday." They have excellent teachers and that makes it easier to send them on their way. I always miss them, but grateful for our time together in the summer. Even on the days when I had nothing planned, they were irritating each other, and it was raining. We had such good times with family and friends. I feel lucky and the pictures make me smile. Get to go pick up the boys on day #3!

Motherhood

Thanks to my friends and family for listening while I try to figure out this wonderful adventure called Motherhood. There are highs and lows and then the calm slow ascent to the top only to be followed by fast corkscrew turns...yes, motherhood is like a roller coaster! The boys are wonderful, yet I still feel like it is an adventure for me.

Thursday - Lion House Sandwiches

Friday - Becky's Taco Salad

Sat - Invited to a BBQ (Yippee, no cooking for me)

Sun - Breakfast Burritos

Somtimes I just need some meal ideas. Hope the ideas help.

Meals from Monday

I was reading some blog and she did Meal Plan Monday. She then listed what her family was going to eat for the week. I am going to do the flashback thing. This way whatever we really liked I can put the recipe on here and not have to search for it. Here is what we ate last week:

Monday - Tacos

Tuesday - Chicken Florentine

Wednesday - Toasted Ravioli (I love this stuff)

Thursday - Quesadillas, beans, & chips for boys since we were spoiled at a wedding luncheon

Friday - Pecan Crusted Chicken in Tangy Sauce ( love pecans & loved the sauce)

Saturday - Cowboy Calzone (PW never disappoints)

Sunday - Steak and Veggie Kabobs
